INEC to ensure credible elections in Jigawa State

With just a few hours to Nigeria’s Presidential and National Assembly Elections, the Nigerian Electoral Umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has expressed readiness to ensure that all activities of the Commission are executed according to its Laws and Ethics.

In a Press Conference, the Resident Electoral Commissioner of Jigawa State, in North-West, Nigeria, Professor Muhammad Bashir said the election and Party Monitoring Department, has successfully monitored all party campaigns without any major setbacks.

He also said, “the department also conducted pre-election briefing of Foreign and Domestic observers and Political Parties in the State”.

On Voter Registration, He added that “the total number of registered Voters in Jigawa State is two million three hundred and fifty-one thousand two hundred and ninety-eight” with one million one hundred and forty one thousand eight hundred and eight Males registered and one million two hundred and nine thousand four hundred and ninety Females registered for the elections.

Professor Bashir also said that “the number of PVC collected in the State stood at two million two hundred and ninety-two thousand three hundred and seventy-two, while the number of uncollected PVCs stood at fifty-eight thousand nine hundred and twenty-six.”

Speaking on the Biometric Voter Accreditation System(BVAS) he noted that “a total number of four thousand five hundred and eighty BVAS have been fully configured for the 2023 General Elections and all have been delivered to all the twenty-seven Local Government Areas of the State for charging and refresher training for three hundred and one RATechs and their posting accordingly”.

“The Elections will be held in the 4,519 (four thousand five hundred and nineteen) polling units out of the 4,522 ( four thousand five hundred and twenty-two)” he added.

Professor Bashir further explained that “there are sixty-one Polling Units that have a threshold of more than one thousand two hundred and fifty votes which will be allocated with two BVAS to ease congestion and voting”.

The Jigawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner further said “all sensitive and non- Sensitive materials have been deployed to the twenty-seven Local Government Areas of the State and all security arrangements in the State and LGAs have been concluded “.

“the situation room or EOSC will be activated and will Starr functioning latest by 4:00pm today while deployment to Areas with difficult terrains is given the attention it deserves”, he added.

“The Commission will ensure a free, fair, credible and all-inclusive General Elections, as majo stakeholders are enjoined to join hands with the Commission to ensure a credible election,” Professor Bashir concluded.
