Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has called for improved unity among African countries as part of efforts to build a prosperous continent.

The Minister was speaking at a business dinner organised by the Angolan Embassy in Abuja aimed at promoting diplomatic and economic relations with Nigeria.

At the event, the Minister said Nigeria, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, envisions an Africa that harnesses its diversity for the common good of the continent at home and abroad.

“It is the President’s dream and vision that African countries forge deeper and stronger connections that allow the continent a bigger and more forceful positioning on the global stage and a greater chance at achieving true and lasting freedom and prosperity,” the Minister said, noting anything short of this would be unacceptable.

“Even against the backdrop of differing languages, cultures, and social and political systems, we must find ways of agreeing on and pushing unified narratives about who we are as a continent and what we want to achieve across all spheres of endeavour.”

The Minister commended ongoing efforts such as the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) and the African Union’s Agenda 2063 aimed at developing a common and united front for action on various levels, noting that as important economies in Africa, Nigeria and Angola must not shy away from playing key roles in the success of these initiatives.

Held under the theme ‘Introducing a New Era of Sustainable Business Partnership,’ the dinner played host to top business leaders and government officials from both Nigeria and Angola.

The event provided a platform for business leaders from both countries to share experiences and explore business partnerships as part of a drive to increase trade and investment between Nigeria and Angola.

It also provided an opportunity for the newly appointed Ambassador of Angola to Nigeria, H.E. Jose Bamoquina Zau to be introduced to the Nigerian business community as both countries forge stronger diplomatic and business relationships.
