Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has called on managers of online publications and news media to play their roles in projecting the country for needed growth and development.

The Minister made the call in an address to members of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers, GOCOP, during their 7th Annual Conference with the theme: Roadmap for Socio-economic Recovery and Sustainability.

If you say you want foreign direct investment, you want Nigeria to grow, you want every good thing that happens to all great countries in the world to happen in this country, then you must be prepared to project your own country. Nobody else would do it for us,” the Minister told the gathering at the conference in Abuja.

At the event, the minister said publishers and well-meaning Nigerians have a collective responsibility to ensure the return of credibility to the country.

It is not only terrorism that is happening here.

So many good things are happening, my brothers and sisters. Let the cup be half full all the time, not half empty.

During the event, Nigeria’s Guild of Corporate Online Publishers, led by Maureen Chibo, pledged to uphold professionalism, which members of the Guild are known for, noting that the guild has a mechanism to check erring members.

In her words; “We will continue to work towards making sure that our members are professionals because professionalism is our watchword.”

The event had in attendance Special Adviser to the President on Policy Coordination, Hadiza Bala Usman; Registrar Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede and many others.
