Insecurity: Army Chief Commends Troops Resilience, Seeks More Commitment

Troops of the Nigerian Army have been commended for their resilience and commitment towards keeping the country safe and secured in the face of myriads of security challenges.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja gave the commendation in his Easter goodwill Message to the troops, delivered on Monday 1 by the Theatre Commander Operation HADIN KAI, (OPHK) Major General Waidi Shaibu, during Easter Luncheon Celebration organised in honour of troops of OPHK.

In a statement signed by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Headquarters Theatre Command Captain Ruben Kovangiya, the Army Chief said;

I congratulate officers and soldiers for witnessing the year 2024 Easter Celebration and urge you all to continue to espouse the values of love, peace and sacrifice in the discharge of our constitutional responsibilities.”

According to General Lagbaja, this year’s easter celebration was unique in that it coincided with the Ramadan Fast allowing Christians and Muslims alike to reflect on God’s abundant grace on our nation.

He thereafter reiterated his effort in terms of improved quality training and equipment, towards combating the myriads of security threats confronting the nation, stressing how the troops have recorded tremendous successes in various operations home and abroad.

He further said, “while the Army continue to express profound gratitutde to the Command-in-Chief for his continuous support and the confidence reposed on the Army at this period of our nation’s history, I wish to reaffirm our unalloyed loyalty in the defence of the constitution of Nigeria and our Fatherland.”

General Lagbaja therfore charged the troops to remain more committed, determined and focused in ensuring the total defeat of insurgents, marauding bandits, and all other forms of external and internal aggressions disturbing the peace of the country.

The Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division and Commander Sector 1 OPHK, Brigadier General Abubakar Haruna harped on the significance of Easter, which he said espoused the ideals of the season that has fostered espirit de Corp amongst our troops in no small measure, boosting the fighting spirit in the battle filed.

In appreciation of the immense support of the Nigerian and state governments, the GOC said troops would continue to do their best to ensure all forms insurgency within the North East were contained in no distant time.

He further expressed his gratitude to sister security services and agencies for the synergy and collaboration under the auspices of the Joint Task Force (JTF) North East OPHK.

The luncheon which was graced by Component, Formation and Unit Commanders, featured symbolic serving of the Wounded-in-Action troops and group photograph.
