About one hundred female soldiers of the Nigerian Army have been deployed to join Operation Thunder Strike to boost the security situation along the Kaduna-Abuja highway.
The GOC, General Officer Commanding, 1 Division Nigerian Army, Kaduna, Major General Usman Mohammed disclosed this while welcoming the female troops on a peacekeeping mission to Kaduna State.
According to the GOC 1 Div, fifty of the personnel, compromising officers and soldiers will be stationed at their Kakau hostel accommodation provided by the Kaduna government while the remaining fifty will be at Jere.
He explained that all the required logistics that will enable them to operate for the next foreseeable future have been provided.
“The role of the women soldiers is to complement the existing operations along the highways and the environs,” he said.
Major General Mohammed expressed confidence in the personnel, assuring that, the vigorous training they had undergone would add value to Operation Thunder Strike.
While receiving the female troops, Kaduna State Governor, Nasiru El-Rufai expressed optimism that with the deployment of the female soldiers, the insecurity along the highways will soon be a thing of the past.
He also expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Army for deploying the troops and assured them of his administration’s continuous support as they work for security in the State.
“The problem of Abuja-Kaduna road will be over with these female soldiers because what a man can do a woman can do better. We believe in the capability of women in this State”.
“I am confident the road will be the safest in Nigeria. We will do everything possible to make this operation comfortable. We are very happy to have you. Your presence will inspire other girls to join the military, that is why we have a female Deputy Governor to inspire other women”, El-Rufai stressed.
