Authority of the Nigerian Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, has reassured Parents, Guardians and Stakeholders of the safety of their Children and wards in FCT Schools in view of the current kidnapping that happened in some schools within the neighbouring states.
The Director, Administration and Finance of the FCT Education Secretariat, Mr Leramoh Abdulrazaq gave the assurance following a routine Strategic School Security known as School Security Guidelines Watch (SSGW).
Mr Abdulrazak hinted that, reports of insecurity of schools in some neighboring states necessitated the intensification of efforts to secure Schools by being proactive and putting in place practical measures to avert such an incident in the FCT.
He recalled that ahead of the current security concerns in December last year, the FCT Administration organized a Security meeting for all the Boarding Schools Principals, Stakeholders and various Security personnel as well as traditional rulers where in attendance to engage in a robust discussion on how to further enhance Security in FCT Schools.
The Director also explained that, the resolutions reached at that meeting received speedy attention from the Administration.
According to him, ” though no Security breach has been recorded in the FCT but as custodians of students, no stone will be left unturned, noting that, the administration has been working round the clock to ensure a safe learning and teaching environment since resumption of Schools following the Covid-19 lockdown last year”.
He therefore assured Parents, Guardians and Stakeholders of the safety of their wards while at schools.
Abdulrazaq further advised the parents on the need to complement efforts of the Government and sustain the various safety measures the FCT Administration has already put in place, noting that security is everybody’s business.
He further re-emphasized the commitment of the Education Secretariat to continue to place the safety of the students and staff as its key priority. He added that, “We are not unmindful of emerging challenges as we are also able to respond to such situations appropriately”.
The Director also noted that, ” FCT Schools are safe, our teachers are teaching effectively while the Students are learning in a Safe environment and the authority is intensifying its efforts to ensure the security is further enhanced”.
