A prominent human rights activist and the Convener of the Recover Nigeria Project, Mr. Osita Obi, has praised Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo for his proactive measures in addressing security challenges by launching the state’s new security initiative, “Operation Udo-ga-chi,”(peace shall prevail).

In a media briefing held in Awka on Tuesday, Obi called on opposition groups and potential gubernatorial candidates to redirect their efforts and resources away from contesting the governor and instead focus on contributing to the Anambra State Security Trust Fund, emphasizing the need for collective action to enhance state security.

“I have a personal stake in the issue of insecurity, this is why I feel compelled to speak out on this matter,” Obi shared, recounting a traumatic experience where he was attacked by cult members.

While acknowledging that critiques of the governor are valid, Obi urged dissenters, including certain clerics who have been vocal in their criticisms, to express their concerns with civility.

“Criticism is a necessary part of governance, but it must be done respectfully,” he stated. “I believe the cleric should apologize for his choice of language.”

Obi commended Governor Soludo’s initiative to create a dedicated security outfit, dismissing assertions that it is a belated response.

“The most crucial aspect is that action is finally being taken. Security is a multifaceted issue; effective strategies require innovative approaches, including intelligence gathering and technological advancements. I was particularly encouraged when the governor emphasized the use of technology in combating insecurity.”

After touring several of Soludo’s development projects across the state, Obi concluded that the governor’s efforts deserve public support. He highlighted Soludo’s initiatives in Awka and other areas previously neglected by past administrations.

“Having taken journalists on a project tour, I’ve witnessed firsthand the remarkable transformations taking place under Governor Soludo’s leadership. Therefore, I urge those aspiring to challenge him in the next election to invest their resources in the Anambra State Security Trust Fund. Governor Soludo is doing a commendable job and should not face opposition.”

Reflecting on his personal ties to the Okpoko community, Obi noted the significant improvements made there under Soludo’s governance, contrasting it with its prior state of disrepair.

“Let’s give Governor Soludo the opportunity to continue advancing Anambra State. When a leader is performing well, it is our duty to support them in their efforts.”
