Insecurity: Nigeria’s former President urges services Chiefs to create new strategy

Nigeria’s former military president General Abdulsalami Abubakar has called on the new services chiefs and the Inspector General of Police, on the need to rise on the urgent demand of rallying their troops and designing the best strategy for ending the tragic war that has continued to consume and destroy the foundation of the country.

General Abubakar who stated this during a press briefing in Minna Niger state capital on Monday, mentioned that the present Security Chiefs can draw up a well-coordinated programs to ensure that all resources are deployed to achieve the much needed victory in the ongoing crises based on their field of experiences on the ongoing crises bedeviling the country.

The former military president who is also the Chairman of the National peace committee NPC, a non-governmental organization in the country, further appealed to Nigerians in putting aside politics and ethno religious sentiments to curtail the challenges ahead.

“We at the National peace committee NPC, are to add to our voice to the voices of millions of Nigerians calling for calm in these difficult times, it demands that we all join hands together to resolve our challenges so as to keep our country united”.  

General Abdulsalaam appreciated the efforts of Nigeria’s President Muhammad Buhari for exploring all measures to ensure that tension across the country are lowered. He further appealed to Nigerians to remain resilient and patient.

“Thousands of Nigerians are homeless and refugees across the length and breadth of the country due to farmers herders crises in the last few years”, added General Abubakar.

General Abubakar equally urged state Governors and security agencies in the country to tone down their rhetoric and take full responsibility for managing the divergent voices and frustrations within their states. He described the ongoing crises ranging from kidnapping, banditry and ethnic attacks, as unfortunate and adding to the challenges bedeviling the country.

According to General Abdulsalaam, the last thing needed is for the enemy to sense a lack of unity among leaders or a break in their ranks.

While appreciating the efforts of opinion leaders, the former Nigerian president however appealed to various traditional rulers and religious leaders across the country to always work towards mobilizing Nigerians on the need to live in peace with one another for the development of the country.
