Insecurity: Stakeholders call for massive deployment of Soldiers

Stakeholders have called for massive deployment of Soldiers across Nigeria to tackle security challenges in the country.

They made the call during the International Economic and Security Summit themed; “Winning the war against insurgency, insecurity and building a robust and balanced economy for the Nigerian State: a collective effort,” which was organised by StandTall Africa Initiative in collaboration with Kabiru Gombe Centre for Religious Diversity Ethics and Peace Studies in Abuja.

The Chairman of the International Economy and Security Summit, Retired Major General Mohammed Magoro said, “The Nigerian President, Muhammad Buhari should recall all discharged soldiers back to their duties after screening.”

Former Chief of Army Staff, Retired Lieutenant General Abdulrahman Dambazau during the seminar commended the military especially those that paid the supreme price while defending their fatherland.

According to him, the security of the state is a necessary factor for its development.

Retired General Dambazau who was delivering the topic; “Effects of insurgency, banditry and general insecurity on the Economic Development of Nigeria: mapping out a strategy to win the war,” explained that the incessant insurgence in the north has displaced citizens who are predominantly farmers and made the lost opportunity in farming.

“Trading within the North east and across the border into Central and east Africa has been affected due to the restriction of movements and closure of borders and this situation has increased inflation and the cost of doing business in the region and reduced purchasing power for households.”

He added that the situation has made life extremely difficult and the region has been a battleground for poverty.

“Illiteracy, famine and unemployment making the people vulnerable for easy recruitment by terrorists and insurgency.

“It is hoped that by the end of the seminar, possible solutions will be reached to end insurgency and improve the Nigerian economy.”

The Emir of Nasarawa State, North Central Nigeria, Ibrahim, Jibril said “Security is everybody’s business and security must be enhanced to help the populace for peaceful co-existence.”

He added that credible intelligence gathering is the key to curbing insecurity as security is properly monitored and secured.

Many dignitaries were in attendance including Traditional Rulers from different states in the North, Nigerian Police, Civil Defence Corps, and Correctional Services Personnel amongst others.
