The Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria, (CIPMN) has called on its members to respect and comply with its extant laws in order to check and address anomalies by quacks.

The Registrar/CEO, CIPMN, Mr. Henry Mbadiwe who made the call at an inaugural Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Abuja after its three-day conference with the theme “Project Management: The Universal Language Of Success” said the institute has perfected strategies to stop non registered members from handling projects in the country going forward.

He said the AGM was the forum to discuss critical issues affecting the organisation with a view to addressing them.

“In today’s AGM, we are committed to go out and ensure that the purpose of the Institute will be fulfilled. We can’t do it alone as Council members but we will do it together in partnership with you members and other agencies

“We want this platform to serve as a stepping stone to greatness and be able to assist in capacity development,” he said.

Speaking, the Council Chairman of the Institute, Mr. Olabode Afolayan, stressed that starting from next year, the Council’s vision is to aggressively roll out strategies to tackle rising cases of abandoned projects across the country.

He said the rising cases of these abandoned projects are posed by non-professionals managing projects in Nigeria.

“Going around the country, you see the impact of unqualified individuals managing projects. It is evident in the poorly executed projects we encounter daily.

“However, with the dynamic leadership of the council, Council is determined to enforce existing laws and ensure square pegs are in square holes,” he said.

He however, called for rapid sensitisation especially in the area of certification in both government and public entities to ensure they deliver meaningful and impactful projects.
