Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, says government contracts, collaborations, and all other activities must be based on the quality of deliverable services rather than sentiments.

The minister made this known when he received the new management of Galaxy Backbone in his office in Abuja.

According to Dr. Tunji-Ojo, government services must be handled with the utmost priority, just as an individual handles his or her private affairs. He added that handling government affairs this way would only improve service delivery and bequeath a better future for the coming generations.

In his words, “We want to save cost, but not at the expense of quality. There is a difference between having something and having something that can deliver.

He further urged the new management of Galaxy Backbone to improve their service delivery, as this would enhance their reputation in the information technology industry.

Earlier, the Managing Director of Galaxy Backbone, Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju, said that the main purpose of their visit to the Ministry was to introduce members of the new management team and also inform the Ministry of a novel service portal that harnesses all government data.

According to Prof. Adeyanju, the novel service portal would help unify government data from different ministries, departments, and agencies, thereby reducing costs and improving service efficiency.

“Galaxy Backbone is a public enterprise of the Federal Government of Nigeria incorporated in 2006 with the primary mandate of setting up and operating a unified information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure platform that addresses the connectivity, transversal, and other technology imperatives for Ministries, Departments, and Agencies of the Federal Government.”
