As part of its commitment to gender mainstreaming, the Federal Government has allocated 35 percent of all recruitment slots in the paramilitary services under the Ministry of Interior to women.

Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made this announcement during a special media parley on Friday in Abuja, coinciding with his first anniversary in office.

The services affected include the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Federal Fire Service (FFS), and Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS).

“We aim to ensure that women receive a 35 percent recruitment quota across all our services. Enhancing the career development management within these paramilitary agencies is one of our key focuses,” the minister stated.

Tunji-Ojo also highlighted measures to enhance security at Nigeria’s borders and improve monitoring at international airports through the implementation of modern technologies. “We are taking significant steps to fortify correctional facilities against potential threats and deficiencies,” he added.

Additionally, he noted ongoing renovations at the Federal Fire Service Academy, aiming to elevate the institution to international standards, alongside the acquisition of modern firefighting equipment to enhance the nation’s firefighting capabilities.

The Minister emphasised the Ministry’s collaboration with various stakeholders to address the challenges facing its agencies and reiterated his administration’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President, which aims to reposition the country for the betterment of its citizens.
