Over the past three months, Interpol has arrested 45 individuals in West Africa in a crackdown on drug trafficking and terrorism financing, the global police organization announced on Thursday.

Among those detained was a suspected terrorist apprehended at the borders of Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso.

Another suspect, a North African national, was reportedly attempting to travel through Europe to join terrorist group in Syria.

Authorities also seized significant drug shipments, including cocaine worth over $50 million in Cabo Verde and 10 tonnes of amphetamines in Burkina Faso.

“This operation marks a critical step in disrupting transnational organized crime networks that threaten regional stability and undermine efforts to build peace and foster development across West Africa,” said Mohamed Moussa of Interpol.
