IOM Presents Cash To PWD’s Affected  By Flood In Anambra

The International Organization for Migration has doled out cash support to farmers with disabilities in flood-affected areas of Anambra State, South East, Nigeria, offering credit cards with 30,000 naira each.

This initiative aims at alleviating the hardships faced by these farmers due to their sudden migration from coastal areas to internally displaced centers.

Addressing the farmers at the Anambra State Disability Rights Commission in Awka, Mr. Hezekiah Samuel, the Anambra Field Coordinator for the International Organization for Migration, IOM), emphasized IOM’s role as a UN Migration Organization, supporting those affected by floods in Anambra and other states, with a focus on promoting humane and orderly migration.

We understand that persons with disabilities are particularly vulnerable during natural disasters.

“This card contains thirty thousand naira, and a special pin has been provided for withdrawal. It’s IOM’s way of lending a helping hand to alleviate the hardship caused by the last flooding,” Mr Samuel said.

Mr. Thomas Mark Onugbolu, from the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency, ASEMA, urged the farmers to utilize the support effectively. He appreciates IOM for transparency in project execution.

Mr Ikechukwu Ezeokafor, who represented the farmers and the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities Anambra State Chapter, expressed gratitude to IOM and looked forward to future engagements

On his part, the Chairman of Anambra State Disability Rights Commission, Bar Chuks Ezewuzie commended Mr. Chris Azor, the chairman of Anambra State Network of Civil Societies , has a noble role in notifying IOM about the commission.

He appreciated IOM for supporting farmers with disabilities affected by the flood, highlighting that this partnership marks the first of its kind for the commission and expressed readiness for future collaborations.
