The Nigerian Chapter of the International Press Institute (IPI Nigeria) is scheduled to conduct its annual general congress on the 11th and 12th of December in Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria.
In a statement issued by the Group’s Secretary, Ahmed Shekarau, it was emphasized that the upcoming annual congress will be structured as a three-part event.
This will include a conference on 11 December, followed by an annual general meeting and the election of new officials on 12 December. A formal dinner will be held on the evening of 12 December.
This assembly serves as a valuable platform for participants to exchange experiences and gain insights on navigating the complexities faced by media professionals in a challenging environment.
The conference, themed “Democracy, Media Freedom, and the Imperative of Protecting Nigeria’s Civic Space,” aims to offer participants an opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions regarding the challenges impacting the field of journalism. Attendees will collectively explore strategies for sustaining journalistic practices in environments characterized by adversity.
“The conference will also help journalists to interact with leaders of key security agencies and seek common solutions to incessant clashes between journalists and security agencies.”
