Politicians in Nigeria have been urged to invest in improving the wellbeing of youths ahead of the 2023 General elections in the Country.
The Chief Imam of the Federal University of Technology Minna, Dr Basheer Yankuzo
stated this during an interaction on the significance of the Islamic New year (HIJRA), with Voice of Nigeria, in Minna North central Nigeria.
Dr Yankuzo who is also a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Mathematics in FUT Minna , further enjoined leaders to always make efforts of changing the mindset of the youths who dominates the larger population to be more productive for the country to catch up with other developing nations across the globe.
Use opportunities positively
Dr Yankuzo who advised Muslim faithfuls in the country to see the Islamic new year as a month of reflection rather than celebration, said people should endeavor to use opportunities positively within the 12 months in the Year than expecting from what they have not work for.
He mentioned that the Islamic new year, the Hijra commemoration globally should be a situation where the Muslims reflect and proffer solutions on the challenges affecting the communities.
” Hijra is telling us about creativity and also about the issue of changing mindsets ,and proffering solutions to challenges affecting the Community , not just celebrating or commemorating on the day,” Dr Yankuzo said.
He further said Muslims and their leadership should reflect on the situation of Insecurity , unemployment, poverty and design a road map of how to end them for the development of the society.
“Unless we change the way we are thinking and change the minds sets of youths and the entire population to appreciate the importance of sacrifice, Patience, perseverance and endurance , the society would not developed, ” he said.
He however called on the government to organise series of training for the youths across the country, on leadership and other developmental issues with a view of changing their psychology for a greater nation, rather than making use of their services for political or selfish gains.
