The IT Bridge Academy, in collaboration with Sightsavers, has trained 25 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in digital skills to empower them for self-reliance and as potential employers of labour.

The graduation ceremony, held on Thursday in Kano, marked a significant achievement in the academy’s efforts to enhance digital inclusion.

Mr. Sunday Isiaku, who represented Sightsavers Nigeria, reiterated the organisation’s dedication to fostering opportunities for PWDs in the digital economy.

Governor Abba Yusuf, represented by Special Adviser ICT, Malam Yusuf Sharada, acknowledged the efforts of Sightsavers and the IT Bridge Academy, highlighting the importance of the initiative.

“This administration prioritises the well-being of PWDs. This training is in the right direction. We see you as partners in progress,” he stated.

David Daser, President and CEO of Digital Bridge Institute (DBI), applauded the graduates for their perseverance and determination, which align with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda focusing on democracy, economic progress, and maximising Nigeria’s demographic strength.

Ingausa Habu, the Executive Director, stressed that PWDs deserve respect and recognition for their unique talents.

Similarly, Mr. Peter Gwer, representing the graduates, expressed gratitude to Sightsavers and the IT Bridge Academy for their investment.

“Our graduation is not the end but a beginning of a new era. We call on national and international companies to create job opportunities for us, and we assure you that we’ll never let the confidence placed in us down,” he affirmed.

The IT Bridge Academy equips PWDs with globally recognised IT certifications, enhancing their employability and fostering economic independence.
