The race to qualify for the 2023 ITTF World Championships scheduled to hold in Durban, South Africa has been concluded in the Northern region as African powerhouse Egypt showed its supremacy with an all-Egyptian final in both the men’s and women’s singles categories after qualifiers were held in Algeria.

Mohammed Shouman triumphed over compatriot Magdy Shady 4-2 ( -6,10,-10,9,-6,-12 ) in the men’s singles final, while Yehia Alaa defeated Lnaghi Rouaa 4-1 ( 7,4,8,-9,5 ) in the women’s singles.

“The competition was very good but a little hard because it is the first time we’ll play a qualifier to reach the African championships but generally it was very good,” Shouman said after his victory against his compatriot.

“And the match with Shady was very hard because whoever won will go directly to Africa championship.”
