The Ebonyi State Ministry of Women Affairs, Southeast Nigeria, has collaborated with the office of the state governor’s wife to organize a capacity training program targeted at the wives of government officials and female appointees, as part of the 2024 International Women’s Day celebration.

The wife of the Governor of Ebonyi State, Mrs. Uzoamaka Nwifuru, highlighted during the program’s inauguration at the Remeritona Hotel in Abakaliki, the State Capital, that it signifies a significant stride towards empowering women in Ebonyi, showcasing the state’s unwavering dedication to their advancement.

“This workshop is dedicated to our training and development. As we gather here today, we recognize the immense potential that lies within each woman. However, we also acknowledge the barriers and challenges we often face in skills development and in discharging our respective duties. That is why this workshop is so crucial,” she said.

She emphasized that empowering women through such training transcends mere gender equality.

“It is an investment in the future. It is no news that when we educate and train women, we uplift our societies. By this workshop, we are unlocking vast potentials and talent that can contribute to economic growth and societal development. It will enhance our skills and knowledge and enable us to distinguish ourselves in our various leadership roles.

“Research consistently shows that societies where women are educated and empowered tend to be more stable, prosperous, and resilient. Ebonyi Stated Today ticks all the above boxes in a positive way, because our government has availed us the opportunity to demonstrate our strength,” she added.

She appreciated the Governor of Ebonyi State, Mr Francis Nwifuru for leading the line in women’s inclusion in governance and social development.

“I am happy that those who represent us in various capacities in the State today, are adding needed value to our course. We are proud of our productivity levels and our input in ensuring that The Peoples Charter of Needs mantra comes to reality. It is therefore important to refresh our minds with this event, brush ourselves up and sharpen our blunt edges,” she said.

Mrs. Nwifuru urged the participants to attentively heed the guidance of the resource persons and actively apply all the knowledge imparted during the training.

Similarly, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Barrister Felicia Nwankpuma, urged the women to utilize the training to acquire knowledge that would enhance their careers and prospects for the future.

The resource persons included Professor Uzor Okoye from the Department of Social Works, Professor Adeline Idike, and Dr. Nancy Agha from the Department of Public Administration at Ebonyi State University.

They provided valuable education to the women on topics ranging from general ethics to women’s entrepreneurship, as well as etiquette and protocol, respectively.

The theme of this year’s International Women’s Day is ‘Count her in, Invest in women, Accelerate her progress.’
