IWD: Group to Unveil 100 Most Influential Women in Nigeria

In celebration of the 2025 edition of International Women’s Day (IWD), an annual compendium of 100 Most Influential Women in Nigeria will be unveiled in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

Top on the list are the Senator representing Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Senator Ireti Kingibe; the Accountant General of the Federation, Dr. Oluwatoyin Madein; the Senator representing Kogi Central in the Nigerian Senate, Natasha Hadiza Akpoti-Uduagham; and the Deputy Governor of Adamawa State, Professor Kaletapwa George Farauta.

Others among the 100 Nigerian women leaders include the Minister of State for Education, Dr. Suwaiba Ahmad; the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani; the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Health, Kachollom Daju and the House of Representatives member representing Damatura/Gujba/Gulani/Tarmuwa federal constituency of Yobe State, Khadijat Abba-Ibrahim.

The publishers of the annual biographical compendium, Gender Perspectives in Development, Nigeria’s leading biographical compendium gave the hint to journalists in Calabar, the capital of Cross River State, southern Nigeria.

According to one of the publishers, Mr. Kammonke Abam, “this annual compendium serves as Nigeria’s most qualitative compendium that profiles outstanding women across different frontiers and they include innovators, barrier-breakers, activists, top bureaucrats, captains of industry, and celebrities.”

He further pointed out that the compendium, also edited by Tammie Edet-Kammonke, Steve Ogah and himself “would be unveiled March 8, 2025 as part of the activities to mark the International Women’s Day, IWD.

“The theme of IWD 2025 is ‘Accelerate Action’, spotlighting the importance of taking swift and decisive steps to achieve gender equality. It calls for increased momentum and urgency in addressing the systemic barriers and biases that women face, both in personal and professional spheres,” Abam emphasized.

Cross River State

Abam further hinted that four outstanding women from Cross River State also made the list of ‘Nigeria Women Annual: 100 Leading Women’, 2025 edition.

He stated, “the distinguished women are a veteran broadcaster and Permanent Secretary in the Cross River State Ministry of Information and Orientation, Mrs. Offiong Ani Offiong and another Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Caroline Asikpo-Edet.

“Others include the award winner of the Professor Bello Osagie Prize for the Overall Best Candidate at the West African College of Surgeons Fellowship Exams in Obstetrics and Gynecology, a distinguished medical consultant, Dr. Yibala Edimek and the co-founder of Havilla University, Ikom in Cross River State and author, Mrs. Blessing Tangban.”

He said that the Wife of the Nigerian President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu; the Director General, World Trade Organisation, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and retired Supreme Court Judge, Justice Mary Odili were listed in previous editions.
