The House of Representatives has reiterated its commitment to collaborate with government agencies, civil society, and private sectors on actions that can overcome the structural barriers preventing women from realizing their full potential.

The Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas stated this at the 2024 International Women’s Day celebration held at the National Assembly complex, Abuja.

The Speaker who was represented by the Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu noted that at the internal level, the Green Chamber is working to strengthen the women’s caucus in the House to better advocate for women-specific issues and mentor upcoming female politicians.

He noted that his office has also launched the ‘Bridge Her Gap Initiative’, a project to address the systemic gaps and inequalities faced by women and girls in Nigeria.

Stakeholders at the event acknowledged the need to take drastic and intentional steps to open up spaces for the inclusion of women in decision-making processes in different sectors so that the nation can reap the benefits of the overall empowerment of women.
