As women commemorate the International Women’s Day, Nigerian women have advocated for women inclusion in leadership positions in order to develop the nation
The call was made at an event in Abuja.
The women said that neglecting gender equality will slow down the Country’s development.
In Nigeria, despite all the challenges women face in the society, their impacts are felt in the entire sector.
Nigeria’s Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs. Pauline Tallen said women have all it takes to make a difference and contribute their quota to national development.
According to her, women demands for gender equality are for the good of the nation as it will help in boost the County’s image in the comity of nations.
She said, “the future we are struggling to ensure that gender equality is well addressed, it is a part that has to be done, we have no choice to if we want this country to move forward if we want meaningful development in this country we must have equal representation, we deserve nothing less than fifty percent, the thirty five percent is to small and whether they like it or not it must come to pass”
The Minister however urged women not to give up on the agitation for Gender Equality.
The Minister of State for Environment, Mrs Sharon Ikpeazu said that climate change has a great impact on women want and that the time is now for Nigeria women to adapt to change.
“The Ministry of Environment in Nigeria is one of the few Countries in the world that has a National Plan on Gender for climate change which focuses on inclusion of gender into all the implementation of our National Climate Change initiative”. She said.
The First lady of Ekiti State, Mrs Bisi Fayemi said that women need to be recognise and given voice in national development.
According to her, we as women recognise that being a woman is important and we demand respect, we demand to be recognise, we demand that our contributions be value, we did not have to beg for recognition we did not have to beg for people to accept the fact that we are entitle to certain rights.
Stakeholders rose from the meeting with the advocacy for more women in leadership positions in order to build a sustainable society for all.
