Jailbreak: Kogi State Arrests Mastermind, Promises Thorough Investigation
By Ishaq Dan-Imam, Lokoja
The Kogi State Government has vowed to collaborate with security agencies to uncover the circumstances surrounding an early-morning jailbreak at the Federal Correctional Center in Koton-Karfe, where 12 inmates escaped.
Officials confirmed that one of the escapees has been arrested and is providing useful intelligence to law enforcement agencies.
In a statement on Monday, the State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, described the incident as “unfortunate” and assured citizens that decisive measures are being taken to prevent a recurrence.
Fanwo said; “The theory that inmates escaped through the tower without causing structural damage raises serious concerns. A thorough investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances, arrest the fleeing inmates, and identify possible saboteurs.”
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has directed the State Security Adviser to work with the correctional facility and other security agencies to prevent future breaches.
The state government also pledged continued support for federal security agencies through logistics and other necessary resources.
Commendation
Fanwo commended security agencies for their swift response and urged residents to remain vigilant.
“We call on the public to report any suspicious individuals in their communities. Anyone found harboring an escaped inmate will face consequences,” he warned.
Authorities have assured residents that the situation is under control and urged them to go about their normal activities. Meanwhile, security agencies are intensifying efforts to track down the remaining escapees, with updates on the investigation expected soon.
