The Jamaican government has requested 400 Nigerian experts in various fields to strengthen its workforce and support human development efforts as part of the Nigerian government’s Technical Aid Corps (TAC) scheme.

The Director-General of the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC), Dr Yusuf Buba Yakub disclosed this during a courtesy visit to his office by the Director-General of Voice of Nigeria (VON), Mallam Jibril Baba Ndace, and the VON management team.

Dr Yakub said the request from Jamaica was sequel to the successes recorded by the Nigerian experts who had participated in the technical aid corps scheme in Africa, the Caribbean’s and Pacific regions.

In his words “Specifically, The Gambian Minister for Higher Education visited the TAC office in Abuja to express his countries appreciation to Nigeria on impactful knowledge transfer from Nigerians experts in the areas of education, and judiciary to the growth of The Gambia, where a Nigerian is the Vice Chancellor of a University. Currently, The Gambia, is set to appoint a Nigeria as the Vice Chancellor of the country University of Education.”

The current Jamaican request would be paid for by the home government at an agreed fee.

This would represent a quantum leap in legal migration of qualified Nigerian young professionals and a quick solution to the illegal migration crisis.

Collaboration
The Director General Voice of Nigeria, has sought for collaboration with the Technical Aid Corps, a parastatal in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to report the positive activities of the organisation, in the areas of manpower deployment to different parts of the world.

Mallam Ndace offered a weekly programme of the activities of the Technical Aid Corps on its terrestrial channels and digital platforms, as VON contributions to tell the positive Nigerian stories to its global audience.

The DG VON said; “we must be assertive in telling the positive Nigeria stories, intentionally, deliberately and unapologetic, because the media is a soft power tool for international diplomacy and global peace. Accordingly, we are offering VON platforms to TAC, to create good image for Nigeria and Africa in line with our mandates.”

VON was established in 1961, as an external radio broadcasting corporation to broadcast news and programmes to enhance Nigeria’s Foreign Policy and image, under the federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation.

Similarly, the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC) is a foreign policy instrument established in 1987 under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as an alternative to direct financial aid to African, Caribbean, and Pacific countries (ACP).

NTAC, has deployed 40,000 Nigerian experts to 40 countries within Africa, Caribbean and Pacific countries. The organisation deployed the country’s best human resources every month.
