Japan-Africa relations have received a significant boost with the signing of 300 cooperation agreements at the 9th Tokyo International Conference on Africa’s Development (TICAD9).
The number of agreements is three times higher than those reached at the previous summit in Tunisia in 2022.
This was revealed at a high-level session attended by Angolan President João Lourenço, who currently chairs the African Union, and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishida.
The #TICAD9 Summit concluded with strong commitments to advance Africa’s transformation under #Agenda2063, in line with the outcomes of the Declaration.

The agreements cover key development sectors, including infrastructure, healthcare, technology, education, and agriculture, areas vital to Africa’s growth and transformation.
Officials say, “This sharp rise in partnerships reflects Japan’s renewed commitment to long-term cooperation with African nations, as well as Africa’s increasing influence on the global economic stage.”
