The President of Japan International Corporation Agency JICA, Mr Shinichi Kitaoka says Nigeria is a unique country that is key to the stability and development of Africa.

He made the remark in an interview with State House Correspondents, shortly after paying a visit to Acting President Yemi Osinbajo.

Mr Kitaoka told Journalists that Nigeria is a stabilising force in the African continent and so Japan would always strengthen her ties with Nigeria.

“We know the importance of Nigeria because it is the key country to the stability and development of Africa, unless Nigeria is stable and developed, it will be difficult to expect Africa to be prosperous,” He stressed.

The JICA President said his visit was to boost the humanitarian activities of JICA in Nigeria, as he listed some of the areas in which his country would support Nigeria.

“Mainly we discussed about our relationship with Nigeria as well as the importance of JICA here, which include health, infrastructure, water and many more,” he said.

Fertile Land

Mr Kitaoka said due to the unlimited resources that Nigeria has, his country would contribute to the diversification efforts of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.

“Nigeria is a fertile country that also has a lot of water. So it has huge potentials in agriculture. Nigeria now wants to diversify less on oil, to diversify the economy, that is an important thing and we are willing to assist in that regard,” The JICA President pledged.

The visit by Mr Kitaoka is the first by any President of JICA to Nigeria.
