Jigawa Govt. Ramps Up Compensation Rates For Land, Economic Trees
The Jigawa Government says it has increased the compensation rate for land and economic trees in the state.
This is contained in a statement by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Youths, Sports and Culture, Mr Sagir Musa, in Dutse.
Musa said the increment was approved by the State Executive Council (SEC) at its meeting on Wednesday in Dutse.
He said it was in line with the present administration’s 12-Point Agenda, which include Land Reforms and Environmental Sustainability.
It was done, considering land as the most important asset for Jigawa State people, he said.
He explained that the rate, which had not been reviewed for the past 15 years, was presented before the State Executive Council by the Commissioner for Lands, Housing, Urban Development and Regional Planning, for consideration.
“The council, therefore, has approved the new rates for both Land and Economic Trees as follow: Dutse and other Emirates Headquarters – from N75,000 to N800,000 per hectare.
Other urban areas – from N60,000 to N600,000.00 per hectare; rural areas – from N50,000 to 500,000.00 per hectare and fadama/irrigable areas – from N100,000 to N1 million per hectare,” it added.
The commissioner added that all types of economic tress compensation rates have also been increased by about 800 percent.
“For example, mango tree from N2,700 to N21,600 per tree,” he said.
According to him, the council has also agreed to henceforth review compensation rates after every five years as stipulated in the Land Use Act.
