The Governor of Jigawa State, Umar Namadi, has met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to update him on the recent tanker accident that occurred in the state.
Governor Namadi said he visited the State House, to welcome the President from his annual leave and to give detailed update on the Tanker inferno , which claimed the lives of 181 people, left 80 others hospitalized, and affected over 200 families.
Speaking to State House correspondents after the meeting, the Governor expressed his appreciation to the President for sending a delegation to Jigawa immediately after the tragedy occurred.
“This action taken by Mr. President has been appreciated by the people of Jigawa State,” the Governor said.
He further briefed the President on the state’s response so far, disclosing that this includes the covering of the medical bills of those affected and offering support to families to sustain their livelihoods.
Speaking further on the reasons behind the significant loss of life in the tanker inferno, the Jigawa State Governor stated no one can question God. “Are you asking God or asking me?”
He emphasized the state’s commitment to ongoing relief and recovery efforts.
To prevent future occurrences, he said the Jigawa State government has established a high-powered committee, led by a retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, to investigate the causes of the incident.
Additionally, President Tinubu recently instructed the Federal Road Safety Corps to conduct a thorough investigation and propose permanent solutions to forestall future occurrences of similar tragedies.
He added that further actions by the State on prosecution would be determined by the findings of the committee.
