The Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) and Assembly of Healthcare Professional Associations (AHPA) have suspended their 7-day warning strike effective from midnight, Thursday, 31st of October.
This was contained in a communique signed by the National Chairman(JOHESU), Dr Kabiru Minjibir and the National Secretary(AHPA), Martin Egbanubi.
Following an emergency virtual meeting by the Expanded National Executive Council of the two bodies on Thursday, the Unions said that the suspension was a result of the efforts made by the government to dialogue with the workers.
“The NEC-in-Session received the report of the conciliation meeting held between the JOHESU/AHPA National Team and Federal Government Team on Tuesday, 29th October 2024 held for several hours at the Minister’s Conference Room, Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Federal Secretariat, Abuja.
“NEC was also briefed by the National Leadership on the outcome of the meeting held with the Honourable Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare on Wednesday, 30th October 2024 at the Minister’s Conference Room, Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Federal Secretariat, Abuja.
“NEC-in-Session critically appraised the various reports and the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) team and the Federal Government team during the conciliation meeting held on Tuesday, 29th October 2024…and resolved to suspend the strike which has already ran six days in the interestofthenation,” the communique stated.
Other decisions taken during the meeting include a timeline of six weeks given to the Federal Government to meet all her obligations contained in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
With the decision to suspend the strike action, members of the Unions are expected to resume their duties fully on Friday 1st November 2024.
