The Nigerian Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor says joint training exercises for the Officers of Armed Forces are vital to curbing current security challenges in the country.
He stated this during Joint Simulation Exercise 2022 for Operation Whirl Punch in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
“The joint training will also help in addressing future threats that the Armed Forces of Nigeria might be taxed to address”.
He noted that given the time available for them, the starting point would be to have a simulation exercise.
“Professionalism is a process. Every organization in the force has to reshape, review its structure, review its certain, all in a bid to get better for them in the armed forces, of course, a lot of mileage has been covered,” adding that they still have so much more to cover
According to him, the Armed forces operate within an environment and within their geographical space but the containing issues are far beyond those within their space which also involve those that are global in nature.
“Some are made, others, of course, are natural but as members of the armed forces, it is necessary for them to be seized on these issues and have them properly contextualize and get ready to like plan contingencies to be able to redress them so that at any point in time when the enforces called upon, there wouldn’t be any reason for any excuse for failures.”
He noted that currently the armed forces is engaged in various theatres across the country dealing with issues that are more internal in nature, that at some point have had to involve the resources and the capacities of the armed forces.
“That’s why they’re there but going forward given the impact of the engagement of heart. We are looking forward to assisting other agencies, indeed increasing their capacity to be able to respond to those issues so that going forward the armed forces of Nigeria will be able to focus more on issues that are traditionally the responsibilities of the armed forces. But I know that , that is the longer term goal that in the interim we shall continue and we escalate.”
The Defence Chief appreciated the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya for availing this Center for them to have this exercise.
The chief of Defence, Training and Operations, Major General Adeyemi Yekimi explained that the exercise was organized as a follow-up to one of the key decisions reached during the last defence retreat held earlier in Asaba this year.
According to him, the main objective of disability tweet was to find ways to further enhance jointness in their operations as the armed forces of Nigeria, working with other security agencies, seeks to overcome the contemporary security challenges facing the country.
“This is in line with the Chief of Defence type leadership focus, which is to foster a professional armed forces capable of effectively defeating consumer imperatives. Indeed, there is no better way of fostering professionalism in the armed forces other than through joint training that will bring together personnel of the three services as we are witnessing today. These days seems is designed to work in one of our key operations operation weapons, which is involved in counter terrorism, counter insurgency operation in Kaduna and Niger states.”
He noted that it was instructive to mention that operational weapons were recently reviewed to bring together under a unified command the different civil service and police operations previously in existing in the area adding that this review was followed by the launching of Operation Soft Progress Sanity, which has substantially degraded enemy forces in the two states, thereby improve security and not general asses.
He added that the simulation success was an avenue to reassess themselves by what gave him the different courses of action available to troops.
“At end dates of interferences, participants are expected to articulate lessons and observations derived during exercise and bring them to light during the exercise workshop.”
He therefore urged all participants to be committed to themselves by “Bringing out some of the lapses already being experienced by our troops in joint operations which the lessons and observations will hopefully help improve the conduct of operation weapons and they direct their proof.”
