Jos Water Corporation Restates Commitment To Boosting Water Supply

The Jos Water Services Corporation (JWSC) has reassured the residents of Jos-Bukuru metropolis of its commitment to boost water supply in the metropolis.

Mr Apollos Samchi, the Managing Director of the Corporation, gave the reassurance in an interview on Monday in Jos.

Samchi said that the state government through the corporation was strategically investing in building safe drinking water systems in the metropolis and the state.

According to him, the corporation had already commenced procedures towards boosting the volume of water pumped out to residents in the metropolis by 50 percent.

The corporation has developed a two to six months action plan of rejigging and reorganising the corporation to address the challenges. We will ensure maximum service delivery and boost revenue generation for the state.

“Furthermore, the corporation will soon commence the tapping of underground water in areas without surface water.

“We will be drilling very deep high-yield boreholes that will be interconnected with a water treatment plant with high-tech treatment technology to supply areas such as Kabong, Utan, Rukuba axis,” Samchi said.

According to him, the Plateau Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has given the approval for the payment of a counterpart fund in which the French Development Agency in 2022 partnered with the state for the rehabilitation of two water treatment plants and the reticulation of new areas not initially captured.

The managing director said that this would expand its reach to under-served areas and areas not reticulated within the metropolis, allowing residents to have improved access to reliable potable water supply.

Samchi added that the corporation would commence the issuance of bills monthly to areas not metered and solicited the cooperation of its customers in promptly paying their bills as the corporation worked diligently to serve them better.
