The Nasarawa State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has inaugurated a three-man constitutional review committee.
The inauguration took place in Lafia the state capital. The State’s NUJ Chairman, Comrade Salihu Alkali, said the exercise was a sequence to the ongoing efforts by the National Secretariat to amend the Union’s constitution.
Comrade Alkali said already the national headquarters of the union had inaugurated a committee in this respect and State Councils were expected to submit proposals on areas they fill should be amended.
He added that it is long overdue to amend the Union’s constitution, as some of its provisions are no longer serving their purpose given the realities of the current time.
The Nasarawa State NUJ Chairman gave the committee term of reference to include: collecting inputs from members and past leaders of the union as well as veterans and compiling same.
He said the committee has one week to complete its assignment and submit the report to the council for onward submission to the committee set up by the National Secretariat.
He therefore, called on members to submit their proposals through their Chapel’s leadership within the time frame.
The Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Isaac Ukpoju expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed on him and his team.
The committee Chairman, therefore, assured that they would carry out their assignment with every seriousness with a view of having a quality proposal that would add value to the Union’s constitution.
Other members of the committee are Valentine Joshua to serves as Secretary and Jamila Kasim member respectively.
