The President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Chris Isiguzo, has tasked journalists across the country to be professional and responsible in discharging their duties before, during and after the 2023 general elections.
Mr Isiguzo gave the charge at a special birthday celebration to mark his golden jubilee in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
He said journalists must discharge their duties in a manner that is credible without religious or ethnic bias.
“Journalists are expected to mediate between the contestants to political offices through fair reporting and space allocation, to educate citizens about the electoral process, and the available choices of candidates, for the masses to make informed choices.”
Speaking at the event, Media Icon, Mrs Moji Makanjuola, described the NUJ President as a smart, wise and humble leader and prayed for God’s blessings upon his life
For the Council chairmen, the Union under Isiguzo’s leadership has enjoyed “Peace, unity and progress”
The organizer of the ceremony, Mr Amos Dunia, hailed the leadership of the Union adding the NUJ President deserves to be celebrated as he has stayed true to members.
“Happy golden birthday to a friend and brother, Chief Chris Isiguzo, you are a man with a strong resilient spirit.”
The Chairman of the FCT Council, Emmanuel Ogbeche said the leadership of Chris Isiguzo birthed a new dawn for the journalism profession with the successful review of the Union’s constitution
