Journalists’ Union re-elects Alkali as Nasarawa State Chairman

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Nasarawa State has re-elected its outgoing Chairman, Comrade Salihu Alkali of Radio Nigeria Precious FM in Lafia for the second term in office unopposed.

The Union also re-elected its outgoing Secretary, Comrade Sunday John of the News Agency of Nigeria NAN

The Chairman of the Council, Alkali, thanked the members of the union for re-electing him for a second term.

“I want to assure you that we will not fail while discharging our duties as I will sustain my good policies and programs for improved members’ welfare,” he said.

Alkali also appreciated Governor Abdullahi Sule for supporting the activities of the union to succeed in the state.

He assured of his member’s continued readiness to adhere strictly to their professional ethics in the interest of peace and development.

Meanwhile, the NUJ National President, Mr Chris Isiguzo, called on the Nigerian Government to redouble its efforts to provide palliatives to Nigerians to cushion the effects of subsidy removal in the country.

He made the call during the Perennial Delegate Congress of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Nasarawa State Council in Lafia.

Isiguzo, who was represented by Mr Chris Atsaka, the Vice President of NUJ Zone D added that this would go a long way in reducing the suffering Nigerians are currently passing through.

According to him, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is hitting the ground running in terms of making sure that palliatives are provided to Nigerians to cushion the effect of subsidy removal.

“We want to urge the federal government to redouble its efforts in that direction as Nigerians are not having it easier due to fuel subsidy removal in the country,” he said.

The NUJ president congratulated the new officials and urged them to live above board while discharging their duties.

“First and foremost, I want to congratulate Comrade Salihu Alkali for his re-election as Chairman, and other executive members for their re-election. 

“This means that you have confidence in his leadership style, that was why you have re-elected him and other expos for the second term.

“We are proud of all of you, please continue to adhere strictly to your professional ethics.

Isiguzo said that the re-election of Alkali and his executives proved that the chairman has done tremendously well in his first tenure

He therefore called on Journalists to continue to do their job without fear or favor and to continue to adhere strictly to their professional ethics.

The NUJ President also called on members to support the new officials to succeed.

He appreciated Gov. Sule for supporting the activities of the union in the state to succeed.

Also Speaking, Mohammed Iliyasu Idde, Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Affairs, Office of the SSG, Nasarawa State, Mr. Allahnana Attah, former Permanent Secretary in the state, Alhaji Mukhtar Wakeel, Founder of Nasarawa Newsline, Hajiya Hadiza Umar, Chairperson, NAWOJ, Nasarawa State, Mr. Matthew Kuju, retired Editor, Eggon News have lauded the chairman of the council for providing all-inclusive leadership.

They urged him to sustain his good work in the interest of the journalism profession and peace in the state.

They have assured him of their support to succeed and called on the members to be loyal and support the chairman and his executive members to succeed.

Comrade Saihu Mohammed Alkali Chairman o, Precious FM Chapel, Mr. Sunday John, Secretary- of NAN from Correspondent’s Chapel, Anna Jatau Kuje as Treasurer- of Nasarawa Broadcasting Service ( NBS) chapel, Mr. Abari Solomon Dogara- Financial Secretary from NTA Chapel, Mr. Abubakar Sadiq Ayigu as Assistant Secretary- Information Chapel  ( Ministry of  Information).

The Executive members that were elected for the first term include Adamu Elafikwu Joel as Vice Chairman from Information Chapel and Mary Elawani  Onyaneh as Auditor from NBS Chapel.

They have been elected to pilot the affairs of the union for the next three years.
