Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has announced a 50% reduction in tuition fees for state-owned tertiary institutions.
This initiative is designed to alleviate the financial burden on students, particularly those from less privileged backgrounds, and facilitate their path toward earning university degrees.
The Governor’s remarks were delivered by his Principal Private Secretary, Professor Bello Ayuba, during the inauguration of the Kaduna State University chapter of the Kaduna State Students Union and a public lecture held on the university campus.
Sani expressed gratitude to the student body for honoring him with the Sword of Honour Award, highlighting the strides made by his administration that served as the focal point of the event.
“We will continue to support students and the youth in realising their aspirations,” Sani pledged, while stressing the importance of maintaining a peaceful environment to ensure the successful implementation of government development programs.
Remain vigilant
He urged students to remain vigilant against those who might exploit them to create discord within their communities.
Addressing the ongoing challenges in Kaduna State, Governor Uba Sani acknowledged the previous insecurity that plagued several local government areas, adversely affecting agricultural and business activities.
He reported a substantial improvement in security due to the concerted efforts of law enforcement, leading to the reopening of local markets, including the Birnin Gwari cattle market, which had been shuttered for over a decade.
Accomplishments
The Governor outlined his administration’s accomplishments over the past 22 months, including the construction of over 78 road projects covering 775 kilometers, many of which have already been completed.
He emphasised ongoing upgrades to general hospitals and 255 healthcare centers, alongside new school constructions and refurbishments aimed at fostering a conducive learning environment.
The Student Union commended Governor Sani for his initiatives, particularly for the tuition reduction and the establishment of new faculties at Kaduna State University.
Testament to his commitment
They noted his decision to allow all students to sit for examinations regardless of outstanding fees as a testament to his commitment to ensuring that no student is left behind due to financial constraints.
The union affirmed that Sani’s policies have redefined good governance by prioritising education, infrastructure development, and youth empowerment, engraving a hopeful narrative for the future of Kaduna State’s young populace.
