As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company Limited KRPC has constructed a solar powered borehole and classrooms for its host community.

The host community which is located in Chikun Local Government area of Kaduna State is positioned to benefit from Job opportunities, petty trading, buying and selling and other economic activities from the beehive of activities that will spring up from loading of petroleum products, petroleum marketers and other stakeholders engagement.

Delivering his speech during the commissioning of the two projects, the Managing Director of the KRPC Dr. Mustapha Sugungun said that the importance of the success of the two projects and the subsequent restreaming of the plant cannot be overemphasised as the host community would benefit tremendously from the economic multiplier effect of a working Kaduna Refinery.

Dr. Sugungun said further, “provision of water and educational facility for the two communities is a demonstration of their collective ambition to uplift the standard of living of all Nigerians through the social investment policies. It demonstrates our resolve to corporate social responsibility.”

Represented by the Deputy Manager, Operations, Emmanuel Ajiboye, the MD said the project is aimed at creating a condusive learning environment for pupils, their teachers and other stakeholders.

According to him, KRPC is conscious of the significance of its host community to the successful operations of their plant.

“We are mindful of the cordial relationship that exists between our company and the host community and the relationship has led to peaceful coexistence in the past and will continue to thrive in the future.”

He said, “it is the firm resolve of the KRPC management to ensure that sensitive decisions and policies are made to impact positively on the lives of members of the host communities.”

“As part of NNPC Limited’s Corporate Social Responsibility policy, I am reiterating our commitment to improving the overall well being of its stakeholders and host communities through sustainable development projects and programs.”

However, over the years, this policy has led to positive CSR embarked upon by the KRPC through youth empowerment and skills acquisition programs YESAP which is aimed at mitigating youth unemployment with its negative impact on peace, security, economic and social activities among others.” He stated.

In addition to the YESAP, other social interventions by KRPC to its host communities include water borehole, rural electrification, school renovation, periodic medical immunization, distribution of exercise books provision of industrial labor employment and Its/ SIWES.

While seeking the community’s support for the ongoing KRPC Quick Fix maintenance projects, Dr. Sugungun reassured them that they will continue to do these projects for their host communities and would ensure a peaceful and harmonious relationship.

One of the pupils, Lahwas Ishaya who spoke on behalf of the students of the school appealed to their host for a perimeter fence in the school which he said if built, will prevent them from getting distracted during learning by passers by.

In her vote of thanks, the head teacher of the school, Rachael Aduwak said they were thrilled by the effort of the KRPC on the renovation.

She however, appealed to KRPC management to assist them with learning materials such as tables, chairs, chalk or white board as the students learn while sitting on the bare floor.
