The AFEX Commodities Exchange has launched a-100,000 metric tonnes Grain Quality Enhancement Facility, and a-30,000 metric tonnes Storage facility in Zaria, Kaduna State, North-west Nigeria.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, said AFEX is not a full profit-making organization but more of a social enterprise creating wealth for others.

“When they came here 7 years ago, I had great doubts about what they wanted to do.

“But today, I am happy with the achievements they’ve made so far.

“I am also excited that before leaving the office, this dream has become a reality,” said El-Rufai.

He noted that the biggest beneficiaries of AFEX investment in the state would be the farmers who often don’t get the best value from their sales.

According to him, farmers work very hard to produce, but have to sell quickly at low prices due to inadequate storage facilities among others.

“AFEX is going to fill that gap, make adequate preparations, clear logistics and also help farmers to sell at the right price while making them rich and improving their productivity,” he added.

Furthermore, the governor thanked all partners and stakeholders that contributed to the success of the project and also expressed his profound gratitude to farmers for making the dream come true.

For his part, the Chief Executive Officer of AFEX, Mr. Ayodeji Balogun, informed that the grain quality enhancement centre would ensure improvement in quality and quantity of grain supplies.

“This will also cause more positive ripple effects in the agricultural value chain and Nigeria at large,” he added.

Other dignitaries present at the event were the Executive Secretary of Kadipa, Khalil Nur Khalil, and Senator Uba Sani of Kaduna Central senatorial district.
