The Kaduna State House of Assembly, Committee on the establishment of responsible and inclusive land-based investment as on Wednesday organised a public hearing for its citizens to acquire the certificate of occupancy from the state government to enhance their commercial value.
The Chairman House Committee on Bills, Hon Muktar Isa Hazo made the call during one day public hearing in respect to a bill to establish a law in land-based investment law 2021 in Kaduna.
Muktar Isa Hazo said that the call is to ensure that all landowners registered their Lands with the state government to obtain the certificate of ownership (C of O) so that the moment investors come to acquire such land to establish businesses, it would be easier for them to sale such land.
In an interview with the press, the chairman of the committee Muktar Isa said the idea behind the public hearing is to make the presentation of the bill known to the general public as the bill is with a framework for responsive inclusive land-intensive agriculture.
He said the bill is to create a committee that will identify lands of intensive nature for agric business in Kaduna State.
He noted that “the acquisition of the lands is a way of compensation, so we want to sanitize it in a way that it would be embraced when it becomes law in State”.
He concluded that “it is a very good bill and was timely, and it’s going to lure and attract foreign investors and Local investors for possible IGR generation in the state”.
Some traditional leaders interviewed from Birni Gwari, chikun, Igabi and Giwa local government commended the state Assembly for establishing such committee.
They stated that “this bill has come at the right time when people need it because lots of crisis has occurred due to land dispute among family, friends and relatives, so now that this law has come it would prevent unnecessary crises”.
They also appealed to the state Assembly and other stakeholders to ensure that adequate compensation is paid to any landowner whose land is received by the committee in the nearest future.
The traditional leaders also said they are ready to give their support to the state governor and State Assembly in their quest to enhance the welfare of the citizens in the state.
