In a strong commitment to modernize agricultural practices, the Kaduna State Government has announced plans to prioritize mechanized farming acrs the region.

This initiative was emphasized by Murtala Dabo, the State Commissioner for Agriculture, during a one-day Agriculture Sector Coordinating Meeting held in collaboration with the Kaduna State Bureau of Statistics.

With the rainy season now underway, Commissioner Dabo outlined the administration’s clear strategy to enhance agricultural productivity through the full implementation of mechanized farming methods. “We are putting machinery and processes in place to ensure that our farmers can effectively transition to modern agricultural practices,”Dabo stated.

The Commissioner urged local farmers to embrace these advanced techniques to significantly boost food production in the state. In line with this initiative, he confirmed that the Kaduna State government is ready to implement subsidies on fertilizers and other critical agricultural inputs, which will further support farmers in increasing their yields.

Dabo also highlighted a resurgence in agricultural activities, noting that improved security in various parts of Kaduna State has allowed many farmers, particularly in Birnin Gwari, Giwa, and Igabi, to return to their fields for the current planting season.

Amina Aliyu, Head of Project and Technical Cooperation at the Kaduna State Bureau of Statistics, emphasized the meeting’s objective of reviewing agricultural production data in the state. “We aim to address the major challenges faced by the agricultural sector and develop practical solutions,”she noted. Aliyu reaffirmed the government’s dedication to enhancing livestock production and other aspects of animal husbandry.

At the meeting, Lawal Umar, the Village Head of Kidanda in Giwa Local Government and Chairman of the Kaduna State Commercial Agriculture Development Association, expressed his appreciation for the governor’s efforts to improve security, which has positively impacted farming activities.

However, he also urged the government to consider reducing the prices of agricultural inputs to ease the financial burdens on farmers.

As the Kaduna State government takes these significant steps toward mechanized farming, stakeholders are optimistic that these initiatives will lead to improved productivity and greater food security in the region.
