The Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, says the state will not tolerate acts of violence and lawlessness, as he warned criminal gangs and drug peddlers.
This firm stance comes in light of recent events, including the assassination of a military officer in Kawo, which has heightened concerns about security in urban areas.
Speaking at the inauguration of a Special Task Force on Community Policing and Drug Control, which was held in Kaduna, Governor Sani emphasized his administration’s commitment to eradicating crime and ensuring the safety of citizens.
Represented by the Deputy Governor, Hadiza Balarabe, she said that, Governor Sani articulated his resolve to confront violent crime and combat the spread of illicit drugs, which he described as a pressing issue affecting communities.
“Kaduna State shall not become a haven for criminal elements who threaten the livelihoods and peace of law-abiding citizens,” Sani stated.
He asserted that anyone found engaging in criminal activities would face the full force of the law.
Highlighting the shift of violent crime from rural to urban areas, Sani referred to this trend as a form of “urban terrorism.” He stressed that maintaining public safety in neighbourhoods and homes is paramount, vowing to strengthen the fight against crime.
“Our security agencies have made commendable progress in tackling insurgency and banditry, but we are committed to ensuring that violence does not spill over into our cities,” he added.
Governor Sani urged members of the Special Task Force to act with integrity and avoid corruption in their operations. He reiterated that this fight against crime requires a collective effort, urging citizens to actively participate by reporting suspicious activities in their neighbourhoods.
“The fight against crime cannot be won by the government alone. We need the cooperation of the general public
“Citizens must reject the culture of silence. If you see something, say something. Security is a collective responsibility, and peace is a shared treasure that we must all protect.” Sani said.
He encouraged community members to report drug sellers, phone snatchers, and those dealing in stolen goods, emphasising that their involvement is crucial in dismantling criminal networks.
While concluding Governor Sani stated that, “Together, we shall reclaim our streets, restore peace, and provide better alternatives for our youth than crime and addiction.”
As Kaduna State embarks on this initiative, the Governor’s call to action resonates with many who yearn for a safer and more secure community.
