Kaduna State Government says it will continue to support the Federal Government to empower the military and other security agencies to battle criminals, reclaim ungoverned spaces and secure communities.
Governor Nasiru El-Rufai made this known in his remarks at the quarterly meeting of the Kaduna State Council of Chiefs, held at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Kaduna.
He said the meeting has over the years proven to be a productive platform for eminent traditional rulers to discuss topical issues and also proffer advice to the government for the peace and development of the State.
El-Rufai explained that the human, economic and social losses these criminals have caused are in the extreme and must stop.
He called on the traditional leaders to continue to play their roles as community leaders so as to sensitize respective communities to see intelligence gathering and sharing of information with government and security agencies as serious acts of personal responsibility.
The Governor further stated that, government intends to reform and modernise the traditional institution to make it serve the people better.
“Therefore, a bill has been drafted aimed at repositioning the traditional institution to replace the colonial law we are still operating.“
According to him, the document has been forwarded to the traditional rulers for study and also make observations where necessary.
He said the meeting was convened to discuss some of the grey areas of the bill before the transmission of the bill to the Kaduna State House of Assembly.
“This meeting is to contribute effectively to the deliberations on this very important document that will shape the future of the traditional institution and restore its fading glory.“
