Kankara kidnapping: President Buhari assures Nigerians of their safety

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has reassured citizens that his administration will not leave anything to chance until all Nigerians still in captivity regain freedom and reunite with their families.

He has also reassured the nation that he would work hard to ensure that the activities of Boko haram terrorists and all other forms of criminalities are brought to an end.

He made the declarations in Daura, Katsina State, as he welcomed the release of Students of Government Science Secondary School Kankara.

Speaking to Journalists on Thursday night, the President said he received the cheering news from the State governor, Aminu Masari.

President Buhari praised the Governor and the Army for working hard to secure the release of the boys.

 “The governor informed me and I congratulated him and the Army that organized the operation that secured the release of the students.

“The Military is well trained and I think they are sufficiently motivated. I am very impressed with the Governor, he has been up and doing since it happened and I congratulated him on the successful recovery of the children.”

The release of the students was seen by many as the perfect birthday gift for President Buhari, who marked his 78th birthday on Thursday.

Earlier, the governor announced the release of the students saying that three hundred and forty-four students were released. He also adds that the State government would provide adequate security in all boarding schools before they reopened in the new year.

“344 students have been handed over to security agencies. I think we have recovered most of the boys, not all of them so we are making arrangements to transport them to Katsina tonight.

“In the first place, we have fenced and secured all our boarding schools, and what that means now is, before the schools’ resume, we must make sure, working with the police and other security agencies that sufficient armed security operatives are posted to all schools.” 

The students were abducted Friday night, December 11, 2020, which forced the closure of all schools by the State government.
