The Kano State Agro-Pastoral Development Project (KSADP), has organised a seed fair to create awareness on improved crop varieties and help farmers boost their production output.
The seed fair organised in collaboration with the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), targeted about 3,000 farmers and seed companies in Kano.
The theme of the fair is: “Connecting farmers to Climate-Smart and Resilient Seeds and Agro-Inputs for improving productivity and Small-Holder farmers”.
The Country Representative, ICRISAT, Dr Ignatius Angarawai, stated this during the inauguration of the fair in Kano.
Angarawa said the fair billed to hold from May 14 to May 18, would expose and sensitise farmers to access quality improved seeds of market preferred varieties of crops.
He said the fair also aimed to change traditional production practices and embrace research-based scientifically proven production techniques capable of improving and increasing yields.
According to him, the fair will create opportunities for linkages between researchers; policymakers, seed vendors, agro-chemical dealers, processors, commodity brokers, marketers, financial institutions, crop and livestock producers as well as other key stakeholders in the agricultural sector.
