The Kano state Public Complaints and Anti Corruption Commission (PCACC) has described as unfortunate series of calls for the scrapping of the Nation’s Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC.

The Chairman of the Commission, Muhyi Magaji made the declaration at an event marking International Ombuds Day 2024 organized by the Commission in Kano with the Theme; “Here To Hear You”.

Magaji rejected the calls for the scrapping of EFCC describing such calls as “unpatriotic and is with some myopic means.”

He noted that, the calls are nothing but misdirected attacks on a critical agency like the EFCC that is helping the Nation.

“We don’t support the idea of the calls for the scrapping of the EFCC, the more Anti Graft Agencies, the more the fight against corruption will be better for the country, and some private issues yes can be handled by the sub-States Anti Graft offices, like ours.”

Magaji explained that, Nigeria needs to move forward in terms of services delivery and the war on corruption.

“If there is anything the nation needs urgently is not the calls for the scrapping of any Anti Graft office.”

Magaji announced that the Kano Anti-Graft Commission has registered 1,359 cases with about 60 percent being duly prosecuted and 30 percent hanging, expressing the confidence to do more pro bono with the use of Am buds.

“When I came to the office in 2015 I met only 30 cases. But today we have 1300,39 Cases with about 60 percent been duly prosecuted and 30 percent are hanging by, and we are doing this jobs without collecting a single Kobo using Ombudsman”.

“Just last week I recovered N30M through mediation and we even paid for some expanses, this clearly tells you that the country needs this kind of Sub States Anti Graft Agencies to support EFCC and others.”

The Commissioner 1 Jigawa State Anti Corruption Commission Musa Auyo said, they are proud to be the pioneer Exco of the Commission, commending Kano Commission for setting Jigawa Commission running on 15 February 2022.

He said the Commission was able to recover stolen funds from corrupt officials.

The Provost Kano Anti-Corruption Institute KANCI Professor Dahiru Usman spoke on a paper titled ‘Kano state Ambudsman: A sub-national model for fighting administrative injustice in Nigeria.

He said Ombuds Day is a global event aimed at raising awareness about the vital role of ombuds in resolving conflicts and addressing concerns.

Usman identified Am buds as critical in alternative dispute resolutions as the system provides satisfactory resolutions among people without bickering.
