Kano assembly calls on govt to assist 500 farmers
Kano State House of Assembly has called on the state government to assist over 500 farmers affected by flooding in Tudun Wada local government area.
The call followed a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by a member representing Tudu Wada Local Government, Alhaji Abdullahi Ilyasu Yaryasa, supported by the lawmakers.
The motion during a plenary presided over by the House Speaker, Alhaji Hamisu Ibrahim Chidari, who moved of the motion explained that over 500 farms were washed away by rain and water flow from Tiga Dam last week.
“There is a need for the federal and state governments to map out strategies with the Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Authority on ways to curtail the challenges of the flow of water from the dam, which has affected various local governments within the vicinity.”
Kano State Permissible Weights Bridges Bill 2021 has scaled the second reading in the floor of the House.
The House Majority Leader, Alhaji Labaran Abdul Madari, while presenting the bill, said if passed into law, the bill would improve effective protection of roads from vehicles conveying heavy goods which often leads to accidents causing a lot of damages to lives and property.
After the debate, the bill was referred to the House Committee on Housing and Transport for further scrutiny and its report within four weeks.
