Ahead of Saturday 3rd February Kano State House of Assembly bye-election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has distributed sensitive election materials to the affected six Local Governments where the rerun election will be conducted.
The sensitive materials which include forms EC8E, EC8A, EC8C, EC8B among others, were handed over to the various Electoral Officers EO’s in the presence of party officials, and security agents.
Handing over the election materials to the EOs, Kano State Resident Electoral Commissioner REC Ambassador Abdu Zango explained that the Commission was fully mobilized for the successful conduct of the rerun elections.
He said, “INEC Kano is absolutely ready. All activities, issues and consultations on this election have been concluded on a very positive note.”
Zango expressed optimism about conducting a free and fair election come Saturday 3rd February.
He assured all the political parties of a level playing ground as the electoral umpire will remain non-partisan at all times.
He said, “In the spirit of transparency and integrity we decided to invite you so that you see the process. The Electoral Officers will receive the materials and the security officials will escort them to their various constituencies.
“So far so good, all the activities have gone seamlessly and I’m very confident that the elections will also go seamlessly. We will conduct a free and fair election on Saturday and we will declare as winner whoever the citizens choose.”
“I have consulted widely with virtually all stakeholders and all our arrangements have been concluded. We are ready, we are set” Amb. Zango added.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner thanked the politicians for displaying maturity. He urged them to sustain a peaceful atmosphere during and after the rerun elections.
The six affected Local Governments for the rerun election include, Tofa, Rimin Gado, Tsanyawa, Kunchi, Kura and Garun Malam state constituencies.
