Kano Constitutes White Paper Committee to review Commission’s recommendations

The Kano State Government has constituted a White Paper Drafting Committee to review and provide the government’s position on the recommendations made by the Commission of Inquiry, regarding incidents of breach of peace, destruction of public and private properties, looting, arson, and killings that occurred in August last year.

Chairing the inaugural session on behalf of the state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Umar Farouq Ibrahim, emphasized that the committee was tasked with the responsibility to examine the report and making further recommendations to prevent future occurrences.

Ibrahim described the incident as a bitter experience, stating that the loss of lives and destruction of properties worth billions of naira had set the state back significantly.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to taking all necessary measures to prevent a recurrence, rebuild the economy, and ease the suffering caused by the crisis.

The SSG highlighted the importance of the committee’s work, expressing confidence in its members’ expertise to ensure a prompt and appropriate response.

A press statement by the SSG’s Information officer, Musa Muhammad, said the six-member committee is chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Security and Special Services, Alhaji Dan Asabe Yahaya.

Others are, Alhaji Aliyu Yakubu Garo – Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Dr. Hadi Bala – Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Higher Education, and Barrister Salisu Marmara – Ministry of Justice, Kano.

While Mallam Yahaya Umar, Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics, Pension Fund Trustee will serve as Secretary of the Committee, Jamilu Usman, Assistant Secretary will serve as Assistant Secretary.

Speaking on behalf of the committee members, Alhaji Dan Asabe Yahaya expressed gratitude to the Kano State Government for entrusting them with the assignment, assuring their commitement to work diligently to justify the confidence placed on them.
