Kano state government, north western Nigeria has presented empowerment tools worth millions of naira to 2, 229 youths and women in the state.
The Deputy Governor of the state, Professor Hafiz Abubakar during the Presentation ceremony of the materials at the government house, Kano said the 2,229 beneficiaries were part of the 3,460 youths drawn from the entire 44 local governments in the state for the empowerment tools.
“Under the first batch of the programme 2,229 are being presented with grinding machine, sealing machine, Spaghetti making tools, flour, Massa processing pan and a token of N5,000 each.”
“We are doing it with the hope that it will redefine the way we support the empowerment and enthronement of our youths and women going forward” stressed the Deputy governor
He implored the beneficiaries to make good use of the opportunity, not only to acquire the skills but pursue business in their various areas of endeavor including education so that they can not only be empowered but contribute to development and peace of the state.
“It will go a long way in complementing the effort of the state government in checking the tendency of idleness which encourages social vices and criminal activities in the society.”
He said it is the duty of the government to identify with the people and support them and this cannot be done by merely visiting their homes but by giving them the chance to be whom they want to be.
He explained that as part of the administration’s one year in the office, government distributed 20 thousand naira each to 520 people as part of a programme designed to give financial support to widows and orphans across the 44 local government areas.
The state commissioner of information, Mohammed Garba enjoined the youths and women to make adequate use of the tools.
He urged them not to sell the items as a monitoring team has been set up to supervise and trace any of the machines or tools sold out to the people.
