The Kano State Executive Council has approved projects and programmes worth over ₦6.9 billion, covering flood control, road infrastructure, land compensation, education, water supply, youth empowerment, and governance reforms across the state.
The approvals were granted at the 36th meeting of the Executive Council, held at the Government House in Kano.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, said the Council approved ₦358,473,978.73 for environmental projects aimed at addressing flooding and improving urban resilience.
The funds, he noted, will be used for the construction of storm water drainage systems and culverts at Tudun Wuzirci in Kano Municipal Local Government Area, to be executed by the Ministry of Environment.
He explained that the intervention is designed to tackle recurring flooding, enhance public safety, and protect residential communities, particularly during the rainy season.
In the land administration sector, the Council approved ₦859,217,654.35 for the payment of compensation to owners of structures affected by the construction of a 5-kilometre dualised road in Tudun Wada Local Government Area.
The project, he explained, will be supervised by the Ministry of Land, with the aim of ensuring fairness and smooth execution.
“The Ministry of Works received the largest share of approvals due to the strategic importance of road and drainage infrastructure. Council approved ₦896,052,327.46 for the reconstruction of a failed multi-cell box culvert along the Kiru–Alhazawa–Bellon Koki Road in Kiru Local Government Area.
“Additionally, approval was granted for the construction of the Yandodo–Mai-Allo Road in Nassarawa Local Government Area at a cost of ₦2,619,690,830.10,” he said
The Kano information commissioner further revealed that another ₦1,207,398,700.89 was approved for the construction of a 10-cell reinforced concrete box culvert and other hydraulic structures along the Karari–Kwaimawa–Santar Komau–Badau–Dutsen Karya–Gima Road, all under the supervision of the Ministry of Works.
“In furtherance of the state government’s commitment to youth empowerment and skills development, the Council approved ₦431,658,000 for the graduation ceremony and provision of empowerment kits for beneficiaries of selected Entrepreneurship Institutes across the state.”
“The programme will be implemented by the Steering Committee on the 26 Entrepreneurship Institutes.”

To improve access to potable water within the metropolis, the commissioner announced that the Council approved ₦85,560,603.98 for the extension of water pipelines in Gwale Local Government Area, under the Ministry of Water Resources.
“In the education sector, Council approved ₦285,174,743.48 as the reviewed cost for the construction of storey blocks of four classrooms with offices across the 44 local government areas of the state. The project will be executed by the Ministry of Education to enhance learning infrastructure.”
To strengthen transparency and accountability in public service, the Council also approved ₦157,689,000 for the conduct of an anti-corruption workshop for all state directors (Batch Three), to be coordinated by the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
On policy matters, he explained, the Executive Council approved the transmission of several bills to the Kano State House of Assembly for passage into law.
“These include the Kano State Local Governments Administration Bill 2025, the Kano State Economic Planning and Development Council Bill 2025, the Kano State Education Bill 2025, and the Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Dambatta Law 2025, which seeks to rename the institution.”
Mr Waiya noted that the Council also approved the implementation of the reviewed Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Policy and Manual to attract private sector investment.
Waiya said the approvals reaffirm the commitment of the Kano State Government, under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, to inclusive development, transparency, and improved service delivery across all sectors of the state.
