The Kano State Government has expressed deep dismay over the recent security blockade of the palace of the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, on Friday.
According to a press statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Baba Halilu Dantiye, the heavy-handed actions of the security personnel have raised tensions and caused distress among the residents of Kano and the surrounding communities.
“This unfortunate development has raised concerns and disrupted the peace in the state,” Dantiye said.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, emphasizing the need for peace and stability.
“The government is committed to maintaining peace, stability, and the rule of law across the state. We strongly condemn any action that disrupts the peace or undermines the dignity of traditional institutions, which are central to the unity and cultural heritage of our people,” he stated.
Dantiye assured residents that efforts were underway to determine the reasons behind the incident and to engage with relevant authorities for a swift resolution.
He called on the public to remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified information that could escalate tensions.
“The Kano State Government remains resolute in its commitment to protecting the rights and welfare of its people and ensuring the continued stability of our great state,” he added.
Meanwhile, the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, addressed the incident during a Friday sermon, urging citizens to remain peaceful despite the provocation.
“I warn you against falling into the traps of Kano enemies who want to see Kano on fire they always want to see killings, destruction of public properties and maiming of innocent lives,” the Emir said.
The blockade of the palace by security operatives, which occurred early Friday morning, prevented the Emir from attending a scheduled royal event in the Bichi local government area.
Efforts to reach the Kano State Police Command for clarification were unsuccessful, as the police spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, was unavailable for comment at the time of the report.
